Good Morning Britain has come under fire after a contributor agreed Keir Starmer should make a “Dignitas departure”. Kevin Maguire is a regular media analyst on the long running ITV breakfast show and during an appearance on Wednesday May 13 hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid referred to remarks he had made in a column where he compared the prime ministers current situation to those seeking assisted dying.

“Look, he’s seen off an immediate threat, but he hasn’t seen off a threat, and that’s it. He’s kind of in in a limbo land,” Maguire said – referencing Starmer’s current leadership woes as others try to oust him.” Reid chimed in: “You write in your column today that he should take the sort of Dignitas departure where he dies with dignity – check himself into a clinic and say I’m checking out as prime minister.” Without missing a beat Maguire simply said: “Yes.”

An outraged viewer shared the clip on X asking: “Do you think it’s appropriate for GMB to platform a guest who suggests that Starmer takes the ‘Dignitas route’ and ‘dies with dignity’ only for Susanna Reid to join in?

“Even figuratively, a broadcaster suggesting that the PM takes his own life is indefensible and abhorrent.”

They were flooded with agreement in the comments. “Sick. It’s bad enough to have an idiot guest talk like that but for a professional presenter to join in… Or mainstream media continues its depressing trudge from the gutter to the sewer,” one person wrote.

“All that spouted in what is Mental Health Awareness Week too. F****** abhorrent,” another added.

A third chimed in: “That was a very f***ing low point for Reid and Maguire. Shameful.”

A fourth opined: “Totally inappropriate, I remember not so long ago leftists and luvvies were saying the same things about Boris when he had COVID…”

A fifth shared: “Should be given their marching orders for that. They are entitled to their opinion but Susanna has an impartiality obligation and should be sacked for this. It is disgraceful to suggest such things on a TV show.”

However a sixth viewer tried to reason with them penning: “It’s insensitive & unkind to speak of anyone who has given public service & esp PM. But of course they don’t mean it literally & are referring to the end of his political life & stepping down with dignity etc.”
