Emmerdale‘s newest villain Dr Caitlin Todd is finally wrong-footed tonight as Vanessa Woodfield has second thoughts about rushing into their relationship.
Fans have seen Dr Todd hold all the cards for weeks now – but it seems that Charity Dingle’s warnings could finally be making an impact.
In Wednesday’s episode, Charity desperately pleads with Vanessa as she insists that Todd can’t be trusted.
Vanessa initially dismisses Charity’s warnings as petty jealousy in light of their own romantic history, but something in Charity’s tone soon leaves her rattled…
It’s in a private conversation in The Woolpack toilets that Charity stages an intervention, urging Vanessa to see that Todd isn’t the right woman for her.
Charity clarifies that she genuinely wants Vanessa to find the right person and settle down again – but not with Jacob Sugden’s bullying ex-boss.
When it seems that Vanessa won’t listen, Charity adds: “Just promise me one thing. Don’t tell Caitlin that we’ve had this conversation.”
It’s rare to see Charity so spooked by anyone – and it appears that this doesn’t go unnoticed by Vanessa.
Back in the main bar, Todd encourages Vanessa to join her for a romantic weekend away.
Making excuses, Vanessa explains: “We’re busy at the vets’ at the moment. Why don’t we leave it a couple of weeks, eh?”
When Todd continues to push, Vanessa puts her foot down: “Don’t you think it’s a bit quick to be going away for the weekend? We’ve only been together five minutes. Look, Caitlin, why don’t we just enjoy getting to know each other first, before we start going off on trips? We can do that later. But for now, let’s just take it slow, eh?”
The scenes come as the clock ticks down on Todd’s deadline for Charity. She recently ordered her to cough up £100,000 to protect the secret that Jacob and Sarah Sugden aren’t baby Leyla’s biological parents.
Todd has promised to leave town once she has the money, reassuring Charity that she doesn’t intend to stay with Vanessa. But we all know Todd is unpredictable, so anything could still happen…
