Prince William expressed a rare wish for Prince George after his emotional outing in Istanbul yesterday. The 43-year-old travelled to Turkey to watch his beloved team, Aston Villa, in the Europa League final against German side SC Freiburg on May 20.
The future King, who travelled without his family, shared that his love for football and Villa has been passed down to his three children, particularly his eldest son, George. He then shared one wish that he has for the 12-year-old, whilst sharing why spending time at the games with him means so much.
Speaking to TNT Sports, William said: “I thought, it’s been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition.”
The royal was present to witness his team’s victory in their first European final in 44 years.
He then added: “I hope it’s not 43 years until the next time it happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and to bring him along tonight is a big deal for me.”
William has often been seen alongside his eldest son, Prince George, during matches – although the 12-year-old was not present at the game in Turkey on Wednesday, as it was a school night.
The young royal attended Aston Villa’s match against Paris Saint-Germain in April 2025.
As well as George, William also bought his daughter along for a game last year.
Princess Charlotte was pictured at England’s Lionesses versus Spain game for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final last July.
William and Charlotte shared a photo on their official Instagram account prior to the match, reading: “Let’s go Lionesses!”
