Emmerdale bosses are lining up an unlikely friendship as part of Kev Townsend’s return storyline.
When Kev makes his comeback, he’ll strike up an unexpected bond with Nicola King – just when she might need support the most.
Kev has shared scenes with Nicola before, as the gossiping café owner was one of the first villagers to figure out his connection to Lewis Barton late last year.
Nicola went on to give Kev an ultimatum – encouraging him to finally come clean to Lewis about being his long-lost father, or keep quiet and leave the village for good.
Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap about future scenes, Emmerdale‘s producer Laura Shaw explained: “As we know, Nicola has taken on a motherly role with Lewis, so we will be seeing more of her and Kev.
“Later on in the year, Nicola’s going to have a few troubles of her own that Kev is going to be supportive with…”
We already know that Nicola has a busy few months ahead – she’s sure to have plenty to say when her husband Jimmy’s ex-wife Sadie King reappears in the village.
Even more worryingly, there are also rumours that Jimmy’s days could be numbered. Unconfirmed tabloid reports claim that Nick Miles’s popular character is bowing out in a deadly exit storyline.
Of course, there’s no official word yet on whether Kev will be supporting Nicola through this, or something else entirely…
In other news, Laura previously reassured Robron fans that Kev’s reappearance won’t cause any more trouble for the popular couple.
Despite being utterly obsessed with Robert during his previous two stints in the village, Kev will be focused on building a relationship with his son this time around.
“When he comes back, he’s very much back for Lewis and it’s going to be about building a father and son relationship between them and building on the Barton family as well,” Laura said recently.
“Robert and Aaron are happy, and Kev will kind of leave that alone. The door is closed between Robert and Kev, certainly for the foreseeable future.”
Chris Coghill’s return to the role of Kev was announced at the start of April.
