BBC journalist Naga Munchetty pulled up her colleague’s “casual” appearance live on television this morning.

The 51-year-old BBC Breakfast presenter featured on the latest edition of the morning news programme (May 23) alongside her co-host Charlie Stayt, 63.

Yet matters became uncomfortable when Naga spoke with host Matt Tebbutt about what audiences could anticipate on Saturday Kitchen Live.

Speaking via video, Matt was eager to update viewers on upcoming content, but Naga interrupted him to highlight his black T-shirt, reports the Mirror. Naga remarked: “Oh casual today! The sun’s out, eh!”

Appearing quite sheepish, Matt clarified that he’d only had 30 seconds to prepare and lacked time to change before going on screen.

Naga then questioned: “Sorry, what time did you get in this morning? I thought you started early?”

Matt responded: “Half past five or six, something like that!”

Naga pressed further: “So for four hours, there was no time to put something smart on?” Despite Matt’s attempts to progress, Naga wasn’t letting it slide.

She then remarked: “Nice deflection, so you had four hours and all you could do is get that T-shirt on, eh?”

Charlie joined in and commented: “I’m intrigued by the wardrobe situation myself. There is a wardrobe department there?”

Matt was left red-faced during the exchange

Coming to his aid, drinks specialist Helen McGinn, who was seated next to Matt in the Saturday Kitchen studio, revealed that he had been grafting non-stop and his black T-shirt and jeans combination was his “rehearsal” gear. Responding to Helen’s remark, Naga said: “Helen, you do remember how mean Matt is to you sometimes, don’t you?”

During the usual handover between BBC Breakfast and Saturday Kitchen, the hosts frequently engage in playful exchanges, ribbing one another about their presenting approaches, show timings, and even their wardrobe selections.

Last week, Naga delivered a mischievous dig at Matt following his replacement by chef and food writer Donal Skehan.

As Donal quipped about how Saturday Kitchen had “got rid” of beloved host Matt, Naga curtly responded: “Well done.”

Donal cheekily continued: “Finally, finally. He’ll be thrilled to hear that.”
