The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated May 25. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.
Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was a man on a mission in today’s episode of Emmerdale but for once, that mission didn’t feature him making someone’s life a misery.
Last week, it was confirmed that Joe and Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) had known about Dawn Taylor’s (Olivia Bromley) revenge plan for ages.
She wanted to steal all of Joe’s money and leave him with nothing after finding out that he had destroyed Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) and Moira Dingle’s (Natalie J Robb) lives earlier this year.
To Graham’s surprise, Joe’s plan for Dawn didn’t feature a dark idea that he had conjured up. Instead, he put a great deal of effort into trying to prove that he can change and put his family first. Joe didn’t want Dawn to leave, and also didn’t want to do anything that encouraged her to walk out of the door.
Dawn ended up staying because she witnessed a few deeply honest moments from Joe. She told him that they could make things work, but if he lies to her again, then things between them will be over.
Why do I feel like this is a case of famous last words…
Anyways. After Joe told Dawn that he’d do whatever it takes to demonstate that he can be trusted, he decided to put his money where his mouth is and get to work being relatively pleasant to Moira.
Weird, I know.

In the middle of a field, Moira was busy sorting a herd of cows that had – suspiciously – made their way from Emmerdale Farm onto the new Dingle land. Joe then arrived and suggested they put their differences aside and end their feud.
The problem with Joe is that he’s the walking definition of the boy who cried wolf, which meant Moira assumed his ‘let’s clear the air’ act was just another one of his schemes.
His words weren’t exactly working with Moira, so he tried to show that he wanted to move on by telling Moira that she could keep the herd of cows, and the money that Dawn gave her a couple of weeks ago.
Moira wasn’t willing to shake Joe’s hand and contemplate the thought of being civil with him, because she knows him incredibly well.
The new claim that he was prepared to change for the woman he loves wasn’t enough for Moira. She refused to shake his hand and said that she really hopes, for Dawn’s sake, that Joe isn’t lying when it comes to being a better person.
So do I Moira, so do I.
