🌊 No Drugs, No Hospital: Jack P. Shepherd Reveals the Wild Midwife Mix-Up During Wife’s Epic Water Birth!
The real-world drama behind Coronation Street’s newest arrival is officially wilder than any script! Soap icon Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt) has blown the lid off his wife Hanni’s incredible home birth story—complete with a massive midwife blunder, zero pain relief, and a highly dramatic pool reveal.
Sitting down with co-host Colson Smith (Craig Tinker) on the latest episode of their On the Sofa podcast, the actor revealed that he was personally tasked with catching the baby and announcing its sex. But the entire room was in for a total shock on Friday, June 26, 2026.
🤰 Two Weeks Overdue and Strictly No Epidural: Hanni’s Powerhouse Delivery
For starters, baby Constance did not want to leave the womb. Hanni—who ironically used to work as a storyliner on Corrie—went two weeks past her official due date, starting a grueling “slow labor” on Sunday that lasted all the way until Friday.
Despite the intense pressure and the threat of medical intervention, the couple stood firm on avoiding a hospital trip:
“We were lucky enough to be able to have a home birth,” Jack explained proudly. “We didn’t have to do the hospital even though she was two weeks late. We strictly didn’t want to go down the induced path. Hanni did really well. No pain relief. No gas and air. She didn’t have anything! She’d done hypnobirthing, she’d done all that. She was fully on it!”
🧜♂️ The Two-Minute Guessing Game: “No, It’s a Girl!”
Because Jack and Hanni chose to keep the sex a surprise, the delivery room turned into a full-blown betting parlor. As Hanni labored in the birth pool, every single midwife in attendance was aggressively betting that a baby boy was on the way.
The climax arrived when Jack literally rolled up his sleeves to pull his daughter out of the water. But because the newborn needed a couple of minutes to clear her lungs, the frantic midwives completely defaulted to their wrong assumptions.
Jack laughed as he recalled the chaotic, water-soaked confusion:
“Everybody in the room, all the midwives, were just adamant it was a boy. When she came out, we couldn’t quite see. For about two minutes, everybody was going, ‘Oh, he’s all right. He’s okay.’ Then Hanni was like, ‘Is it a boy?’ and the midwives went, ‘Oh, we don’t know, we just kind of assumed it was!’ Hanni said, ‘Let’s have a look!’ and I went, ‘No, it’s a girl!’“
Hanni is reportedly fully recovered and thriving after her legendary, drug-free water birth. With a birth story that dramatic, baby Constance is clearly already a natural-born star!
