The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated June 1. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.

Patrolling Emmerdale Farm took quite the turn for Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) in the ITV soap today, as an incident saw him reflect on a tragic family loss.

Graham took it upon himself to try and find the fire-starter on Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle’s (Danny Miller) land last week. The mysterious figure has been setting things alight in barns for quite a while now, and the only thing Robert and Aaron have managed to work out regarding identifying the culprit is that they regularly wear a dark jumper.

Last week, the show confirmed that Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) is the arsonist. Just before Friday’s episode ended, he was seen setting fire to the hoodie that Aaron had mentioned.

Kyle caused trouble for Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) in today’s episode, as he decided to skip school. In Kyle’s eyes, doing up the vintage Golf that his dad gave him is far more interesting than school work, but Cain doesn’t want him neglecting his education.

After he found Kyle hiding in one of the barns, Cain ranted to Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) about his son’s behaviour and how he regrets getting the car. Kyle listened to this, and believed it was Cain’s way of saying that he didn’t like spending time with him.

Meanwhile, Graham and his binoculars were wandering the land on Emmerdale Farm, hoping to spot the arsonist. To Graham’s shock, he spotted smoke in the distance. He hopped in his car and sped towards the danger, where he found Kyle standing beside his Golf that had been torched.

Graham scooped Kyle to safety, but the time for a stern talking to was put on hold due to the arrival of Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), who had also seen the smoke.

Kyle hopped in Graham’s car to prevent getting caught. Moira questioned Graham and wondered if he had seen anyone set fire to the vehicle, but he covered for Kyle and sped away with the young lad in the back.

Down a quiet road, Graham pointed out that Kyle put his life in jeopardy by setting fire to the car. Interestingly, he then opened up to Kyle about the death of his wife and unborn child.

After getting drunk at the pub in 2018, Graham drove a pregnant Cheryl Foster home. As they were driving, Graham lost control of the car and crashed into a tree.

Instead of calling the emergency services, Graham rang Kim Tate (Claire King). Moments later, the car exploded, killing Cheryl and their baby.

As haunted as he was seeing the burning car in the present day, Graham told Kyle this to help him understand that sometimes, awful and life-changing things can happen if you are irresponsible.

Graham understood that Kyle setting fire to things was linked to everything that his family has been through this year, and wanted to help the troubled boy. He explained to Kyle that if he doesn’t take ownership and tell Cain and Moira the truth, then he will.

However, when Kyle got back to Wishing Well, he couldn’t bring himself to tell his parents that he’s the reason his car got burnt to a crisp.

Graham grows determined to assist Kyle with turning his life around this week, as he decides to sign him up to the cadets.

But will Cain and Moira discover what’s going on?
