Cain was angry to discover that Kyle had skipped school, so he vented to Kammy about Kyle’s obsession with fixing up his Golf. Kyle overheard and felt that his dad didn’t enjoy their time together.
When a lighter fell out of Kyle’s bag, he fought temptation, but Graham spotted smoke and rushed to find Kyle watching his Golf burn.
After pulling Kyle to safety, Graham connected the dots and realised that Kyle was the fire-starter when he saw Kyle put a lighter in his pocket.
Graham’s own past trauma with fire was triggered, but Kyle explained his actions were a response to his troubles, saying: “How would you feel if you lost your mum, your home, and Moira went to prison, and your dad never wants to hang out with you ’cause he’s got cancer?”
When Moira turned up, saying she had seen the smoke and was on the way, Kyle hid in Graham’s car.
Later, Graham was understanding of Kyle’s situation and allowed him to open up about his motivations, promising to help but insisting Kyle must first confess to Cain and Moira, saying: “If you don’t tell them, then I will.”
Kyle didn’t confess to his parents, and Moira jumped to further wrong conclusions about who the firestarter is, saying she thought the culprit was Joe or Graham.
After Cain said it wasn’t their fight, Moria replied: “Our son’s car has been torched. It is very much our fight.”
