Prince William heaped praise on his “amazing” wife Kate following her ambitious solo Italy visit.

Speaking with Heart Breakfast presenters Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston, William gushed about Kate and revealed she is “edging herself back” into more overseas trips following a her cancer diagnosis in January 2024. In a touching tribute to the matriarch of the family, William said: “She’s an amazing mum, an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her.”

The Prince of Wales, 43, made the heartfelt admission during a live broadcast from the Isles of Scilly where he will later visit a hospital and meet with staff and patients at a new facility meant to deliver more services to residents on the island. But William also took a moment to share an update about Kate’s successful visit to Italy earlier this month.

Kate, 44, introduced herself as Catarina in Italian when speaking to children in the city of Reggio Emilia. She made the visit as part of her early childhood work examining nature-centric learning.

The visit to northern Italy was widely viewed as a triumph and Kate received a rapturous welcome from residents. Part of her fact-finding mission was to learn about innovative approaches to teaching children in the region.

William revealed Kate has thrown herself into the subject and that he even needs to dodge piles of documents when nipping around the bedroom. He said: “She wanted to go and do lots of research – she spends God knows how much time now looking through all the paper work.

“he’s a proper pro and most evenings I’m fighting to get past, in the bedroom, all the paper work she has to read. So, I’m really pleased for her. I think she came back buzzing.”

When asked about the pride he felt in his wife, William added: “she’s been amazing, she’s been through so much in the last couple of years particularly. She was looking forward to the Italian trip a lot and I’m really glad it went really well.”

But the prince revealed while Kate will likely embark in similar visits abroad in the future, the family and staff are making sure she is fit to do so. “Away trips like that take a lot out of you because you’re on permanent receive and send the whole time, we have to balance that, make sure she’s OK,” he said.

Kate underwent treatment following her cancer diagnosis and is in remission. After announcing her remission early last year, she has started to resume royal engagements.
