It’s going to become a case of protect Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) at all costs next week in Emmerdale, as he’s accused of being the village arsonist – but the real reason for his shifty behaviour is utterly heartbreaking.
Kammy left us all curious this week when his mood suddenly shifted while at the garage. He had rocked up late and faced Aaron Dingle’s (Danny Miller) angry wrath because he wasn’t pulling his weight. Kammy always has a smile on his face, so it was concerning to see the young man clearly troubled by something.
He also put distance between him and Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) when she mentioned the possibility of meeting his family. Kammy then whipped up a new excuse to cover for not spending time with Belle that evening, and walked away.
In a few days, Aaron and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) remain determined to find the barn firestarter, and Kammy remains on their list of suspects due to how suspicious he acts whenever the topic is discussed.

As revealed in our new teaser clip, Aaron and Robert seemingly believe they’ve caught Kammy in the act when they catch him in a field carrying a petrol can and a lighter.
They accuse Kammy of being the firestarter and he is horrified.
In a devastating moment after this, the loved character reveals that he was planning on torching his car.
Despite this, Kammy still finds himself getting taken out of the village in a police car.
Discussing the upcoming moment where Kammy’s accused of starting the fires, actor Shebz Miah said: ‘He’s not had an easy ride, and all of this is bringing back a lot of unpleasant memories for him. And it’s just one of those things where, because he’s got no one, he’s got no leg to stand on’, he said.
‘And I think it’s that right person, wrong time thing, and he sort of accepts it, but it’s just one voice against the rest of the village, and there’s nothing you can do about that, unfortunately. But I also imagine it’s not the first time that Kammy has been in a position like that. He has been against the majority quite often before.’
Scenes that also air next week will rule Kammy out as the firestarter, as it’s revealed that he’s unhoused and sleeping in one of the barns on Emmerdale Farm. It’s therefore safe to assume that Kammy’s change in tone is down to how terrified he is that his makeshift home is going to be destroyed.

Producer of the show Sophie Roper previously said of Kammy’s story: ‘This storyline is a vital look at ‘hidden homelessness,’ showing that people can be living on the edge of society, sleeping in their vehicle or barns, while still successfully holding down a job and maintaining relationships.
‘For many reasons, a person’s circumstances can change dramatically and we wanted to challenge the perception of what homelessness looks like and prove that what people present to the outside world isn’t necessarily the whole story.
‘We hope this narrative encourages our viewers to look closer and remember that things are not always quite as they seem.’
