King Charles proved he is the ultimate good sport today after falling victim to a rather cheeky seagull during a bustling royal walkabout in Northern Ireland.
The monarch was busy greeting hundreds of well-wishers in the picturesque seaside town of Newcastle in County Down when disaster struck from the skies. Out of nowhere, a rogue gull unloaded its lunch right onto the King’s impeccably tailored suit jacket, leaving a noticeable white splatter on the royal lapel.
But while most of us would be left completely red-faced and frantically sprinting for the nearest dry cleaner, the quick-witted royal didn’t even break a sweat.
Showing a masterclass in the classic British ‘stiff upper lip’, Charles simply glanced down at the messy offending dropping, looked back up at the gasping crowd, and quipped: “At least it didn’t land on my head!”
The brilliant off-the-cuff remark left the gathered crowds in absolute stitches, instantly cutting the tension of the awkward encounter.
“He was just so brilliant about it,” one royal fan who witnessed the hilarious moment shared on X (formerly Twitter). “We all gasped when it happened, but he just chuckled and carried on shaking hands. Total class act!”
The King, who is no stranger to the unpredictable nature of seaside towns, completely brushed off the avian assault and continued his walkabout without missing a single beat. He spent several more minutes chatting warmly with local residents, shaking hands, and accepting bouquets of flowers—splattered suit and all.
Social media immediately erupted with praise for the unfazed King, with royal watchers dubbing him the “King of the Gulls” and applauding his down-to-earth sense of humor.
“Imagine a bird pooping on you in front of hundreds of cameras, and you just make a dad joke. That is peak Charles,” wrote one amused user.
Another added: “The gulls in County Down respect absolutely no one, not even the King! Good on him for laughing it off.”
It certainly seems that it takes a lot more than a rogue seagull to ruffle this monarch’s feathers!
