The hunt for Theo Silverton’s true killer has just thrown a massive wrench into the Weatherfield police department. Next week on Coronation Street, copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) faces a humiliating professional demotion when he is abruptly and officially stripped from the murder investigation.
Aside from his brief mid-storyline trip to Wales, Kit has dedicated weeks of tireless legwork to tracking down the culprit. Naturally, he is left absolutely seething when a sudden precinct shake-up forces him onto alternative desk duty.
But while Kit is off the clock, his sharp detective instincts are about to be re-triggered by a very loose-tongued Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon).
💈 Ambushed at the Salon: Lisa and McLaughlin Squeeze Maria
With Kit out of the way, DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) teams up with fellow officer McLaughlin to tighten the screws on their prime suspect, Gary Windass (Mikey North). Recognizing that the only way to lock Gary down is to break his iron-clad alibi, the duo launch a surprise raid on Maria’s hair salon.
Under an absolute mountain of pressure from the two coppers, a terrified Maria manages to keep her composure. She stubbornly sticks to her original statement, swearing that Gary was tucked up at home with her the night Theo was slain.
However, the agonizing strain of lying to the police immediately sends Maria into a spiral. She storms back home and drops a desperate ultimatum to her husband, begging him to finally come clean about his shady behavior.
As viewers well know, Gary is completely trapped. He isn’t the killer, but he is actively ruining his own life to cover up the fact that his ex, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), is the true murderer. Refusing to betray Sarah, Gary stays silent, causing a furious Maria to pack her bags and flee to the local boozer in a huff.

Desperate to drown her sorrows, a miserable Maria heads to the Rovers Return, where she pulls up a stool right next to a brooding, demoted Kit Green.
Finding common ground in their shared frustration, Maria completely lets her guard down to the off-duty cop. She bitterly confesses that her marriage to Gary has hit absolute rock bottom, venting that she is “sick to the back teeth of all his secrets and lies.“
While Maria is completely oblivious to the fact that her husband is helping Sarah get away with murder, Kit’s detective radar immediately begins to beep.
As Gary’s former business partner and a seasoned copper, Kit is uniquely placed to spot the sudden shift in Gary’s erratic behavior. With the clues practically handed to him on a silver platter over a pint of beer, will a sidelined Kit launch an rogue, off-the-books investigation to solve Theo’s murder and win back his badge?
