Inspirational television star and BBC Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts has pulled back the curtain on a terrifying and painful new medical emergency, revealing she spent an entire night desperately trying to hold her own intestine inside her body.
Taking to her Instagram account on Thursday, June 18, the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alumna shared a raw update alongside a brave picture of herself resting in bed, proudly showcasing her stoma bag.
Forced Out of the Stomach Wall
Adele had initially hopped onto her Instagram Stories to celebrate a massive personal victory, announcing she had successfully completed a grueling fitness challenge to raise vital funds for cancer research. However, the triumph came at a severe physical cost as she detailed the grueling health setback that followed.
“Audrey (my stoma) prolapsed again, been up all night holding my intestine in,” Adele candidly confessed to her followers. “Tummy is sore, but at least my stoma is staying in my body for now.”
The marathon runner went on to explain the exact biological cause behind the terrifying prolapse, highlighting the intense physical strain her body had recently endured.
“That’s the effect of the pressure put on my stoma by bowel prep and a colonoscopy,” she wrote. “It forces my intestine out of my stomach wall.”
A Heartfelt Tribute to ‘Audrey’ the Life-Saver
The latest medical scare comes just a year after Adele famously threw a full birthday party for her stoma bag—whom she affectionately named Audrey—publicly declaring that the medical device had literally saved her life following her battle with bowel cancer.
Reflecting on her unique relationship with her stoma, Adele previously joked: “People have parties for their pets… Audrey is just as important… maybe more so… I wouldn’t actually be alive without her. I’d also have a much less stressful life and accident-prone life too, haha. It’s like having a naughty baby strapped to my front. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Delaying the Reversal Surgery
While many patients eagerly await the opportunity to undergo stoma reversal surgery, Adele revealed she has made the conscious decision to put the procedure on ice for the foreseeable future.
The broadcaster explained that she is still within her critical five-year “cancer-free” observation window, making Audrey a vital safety net. Furthermore, she revealed that her body is undergoing unexpected structural changes that require further surgical intervention before a reversal is even medically possible.
“My body isn’t technically ready for a reversal just yet,” she added with her signature optimism. “It seems hell HAS frozen over and my bottom has decided to close up for business. So until that’s sorted out by surgery, Audrey is staying! 4 years old and still going strong!”
