The village of Emmerdale is currently playing host to one of its most scandalous storylines in history, but fans hoping for Debbie Dingle to return and sort out the chaos are in for a major disappointment.
The explosive plot centers around Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who agreed to act as a surrogate for her granddaughter, Sarah Sugden, and her husband, Jacob. However, in a twisted soap opera betrayal, a secret one-night stand between Charity and bad boy Ross Barton (Michael Parr) resulted in baby Leyla biologically belonging to them—a ticking time bomb that Sarah and Jacob are completely oblivious to.

Given that Sarah is Debbie Dingle’s biological daughter, fans have flooded social media demanding to know why Debbie hasn’t stormed back into the Dales to protect her child.
Breaking her silence on the Live Laugh Luke podcast, actress Charley Webb—who portrayed the fiercely independent Debbie for nearly two decades—flatly ruled out an imminent return to the ITV soap.
“Not at the moment, no,” Charley candidly confessed when quizzed about stepping back into the village. “There’s no plans for me to go back just because I think it wouldn’t be the right time. Having three kids is a lot. Also, working there is a lot. So, not at the moment, but never say never.”
The 38-year-old mother of three went on to shatter fans’ hopes even further by revealing that Emmerdale executives have actively tried to lure her back to the set on multiple occasions.
“I’ve been asked to return a few times,” she admitted. “But again, it just wasn’t the right time. There’s quite a big story at the moment with the girl that played my mum having a baby, and everyone’s like, ‘You would be there. You would be there.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I’m not right now.'”

While Debbie remains comfortably away from the village drama, her mother Charity is currently enduring a living hell on screen.
The villainous Dr. Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) recently uncovered the truth about baby Leyla’s real biological parents and used the leverage to relentlessly blackmail the Woolpack landlady.
The sinister plot took a truly harrowing turn when Dr. Todd brutally assaulted Charity after she tried to stand her ground.
