Kev’s gun-toting days of robbing pawn shops seem to be behind him—at least on the surface. He is currently eyeing a fresh start with a delightfully wholesome new venture named “A Slice of Kev-en.”
But before we get swept up in his apparent redemption arc, it’s worth remembering his dark history. That previous pawn shop heist is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. Prior to his on-screen reappearance, fans had heavily speculated about what could drag him back to the village, with many pinning him as the culprit behind the recent, mysterious barn fires.
However, the real catalyst for his return is far more sinister: the sudden kidnapping of his biological son, Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches). And to make matters worse, Kev is entirely to blame.
The Ransom Demand: A Stolen Diamond Named ‘Penny’
The drama kicks off when Lewis is violently bundled into the back of a van by an unknown assailant. The kidnapper soon breaks their silence, contacting Ross Barton (Mike Parr) with a chilling ransom demand.
The culprit, a ruthless woman named Kylie, delivers a strict ultimatum: if Kev doesn’t return her beloved “Penny,” Lewis will be sent back in pieces.
This leaves Ross in a state of sheer panic. Not only has he no idea where Kev is hiding, but he also has no clue who or what “Penny” is. As it turns out, Penny isn’t a person—it is a massive, incredibly valuable diamond that Kev previously stole from Kylie.
A Cold-Blooded Father and a Vicious Ultimatum
When Ross finally tracks Kev down, the baker is completely unfazed by the threat to his son’s life. He casually claims he no longer has the rock, asserting he sold it off to a pawn shop.
However, his nonchalance is quickly explained by a glaring lie: the diamond is literally hanging around his neck. It remains a mystery whether Kev never actually sold the stone, or if he stole it back during his infamous pawn shop robbery alongside Doctor Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson). Regardless of its origin, Kev has zero intention of surrendering the jewel, showing a chilling lack of concern for Lewis’s survival.
Kylie’s patience begins to wear dangerously thin. She texts Ross a graphic photograph of a surgical tray lined with scalpels, making it crystal clear that she will start amputating pieces of Lewis for every moment she is kept waiting.
Ross Delivers Justice: A Brutal Knockout Changes the Game
It is only when the threat turns stomach-churningly real that Kev begins to reconsider his stance. As if by magic, the missing diamond suddenly materializes back in his hands.
Unfortunately for Kev, Ross is not a man to be trifled with. Losing his temper with the selfish father, Ross sends Kev crashing to the ground with a vicious punch to the jaw.
