There’s a new addition to the royal fold.

Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, who is known as King Charles’ “hot equerry,” welcomed his first child with his wife, Olivia (nĂ©e Lewis), on May 20. The birth was announced in The Times on May 27, revealing the baby girl’s name to be Theodora.

The name means “God’s gift” in Greek, per The Bump.

Thompson, 43, and his wife, 35, tied the knot in May 2025. He was previously married to marketing manager Caroline Thompson from 2010 to 2022, with whom he shares a son.

In addition to his frequent appearances as the King’s right-hand man, Thompson has been spotted socializing with members of the royal family. He and Olivia were spotted chatting with Zara and Mike Tindall at Royal Ascot last June.

Thompson first made major headlines when he escorted the late Queen Elizabeth for a battalion review at Balmoral Castle in August 2018, serving as one of the sovereign’s most senior bodyguards.

Upon the Queen’s death, he stepped into service as King Charles’s personal equerry, receiving a promotion from major to lieutenant colonel. On the King’s coronation day in May 2023, videos of Thompson helping the King with his ceremonial robes went viral, with commenters joking that the handsome soldier should be crowned as well.

Thompson was recently back in the spotlight when he accompanied the King and Queen Camilla on their visit to the United States last month. He stood out in his dress uniform and kilt at the massive garden party held at the home of the British ambassador on April 27, where he flanked the King as he greeted dozens of guests.

The lieutenant colonel even got to show off a wardrobe change when he accompanied the King to Bermuda after his time in the U.S. As he and the King deplaned at the L.F. Wade International Airport in Hamilton on April 30, Thompson could be seen in his white military uniform, traditionally used in warmer climates.

Thompson’s presence stateside even impressed Martha Stewart, who marveled about getting to meet him at the King’s Trust Gala at Christie’s New York on April 29.

The lifestyle icon, 84, shared a snap of the equerry on her social media page, drawing envy from many in the comments.

“Can’t believe I got this close to the ‘hot Equerry’ Johnny Thompson  Aide de camp to His Majesty , the King,” Stewart wrote in the caption.

“We actually spoke while waiting for King Charles to get to us for a few words,” she added. “ Totally charming  completely cool  Exceedingly handsome.”
